I think vacations should be planned around the school schedule. I understand there might be situations you can't control, but education should come first.

No not unless school is over, school is more important tan anything.
I believe it's ok as long as the child doesn't get too far behind is school work.family time is precious, there's plenty of time for school.enjoy your family while you can xoxo
I don't think it's a huge deal as long as the child has not missed many days so far that school year. We took my daughter out of school for 2 days when she was in kindergarten for a trip to Disney World in April. The schools around us only get 3 days of "Spring Break".
I know school is important, but family time is too. I guess I feel OK about taking my kid out of school for a family vacation, but she is only in kindergarden. I also don't want her to get the idea that the responsibility of going to school is flexible, as that could create problems down the road. But we were invited to a nice vacation with my parents so I took her out of school on a Friday.

kids are in school for more than 13 years of their life. I think they learn on vacation more than they do at school. Take Washington DC for instence, seeing it is a lot better than reading about it. :)
