Put your child in great light, says portrait photographer Stephanie Simpson. Little babies are especially portable, so it's easy to place them in the best possible spot. "A puddle of light filtered by window sheers is a good option, or look for a place where they are backlit by the sun," Simpson says. Photographer Jeremy Dodgen says diffused light (open shade, light through a window) is generally better than direct sun or direct flash, which can create harsh shadows.
