Seriously, it’s hard enough to set boundaries, keep your dignity and say “no” when necessary in regular life, but with stepkids, all of that becomes an Olympic event. And if your friend is having a hard time being accepted by the stepkids, the “wicked” reference could be a verbal arrow.
Try instead: If you must dig up the goods on how everything is going, ask, “How’s everything going?”
