A new Senate bill has been introduced by two Democrats to give pregnant women workplace accommodations similar to those for the disabled, making it illegal for workplaces not to "reasonably accommodate" pregnant employees (including reassigning heavy-lifting, or providing a pregnant employee with a stool if she experiences pain while standing for spans of time. The bill would also stop employers from firing or placing on unpaid leave pregnant women who need small job modifications to remain healthy.
