She explained she was out of “fun” bandages, which are usually donated. On the ride home, he said “Mom, we have a problem,” and asked his mother if he could start a lemonade stand to raise money

One day after undergoing an injection in his fight against Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, his nurse put on a plain bandage instead of one of the Sponge Bob ones he’d hoped for. She explained she was out of “fun” bandages, which are usually donated. On the ride home, he said “Mom, we have a problem,” and asked his mother if he could start a lemonade stand to raise money for bandages, so the hospital would never run out again. His first lemonade stand had a turnout of 500 people, collected 700 boxes of bandages and raised more than $1,900 to buy more. His mom Vicki said she is very proud, but his diagnosis hasn’t changed him—he is still the Jack she loves, who refuses to be defined by his cancer.
