How to Calm a Colicky Newborn

Calming a colicky baby can be very simple, says pediatrician Carey Chronis, who practices in Ventura, California. "First, avoid overfeeding your baby." he says. Next, bundle your baby snugly. "Newborns can be swaddled for up to 20 hours each day, and they calm easiest when well wrapped," he adds. Finally, find a quiet dimly lit place to sit. Soft music playing in the background can help. Try offering a pacifier at this time as you calmly and gently rock your baby. If crying persists and interferes with feeding, consult the babies pediatrician as it might be a sign of GERD or Gastroesophageal reflux disease.
