How to Sterilize Baby Formula

Formula is ready to use and does not need any sterilization, says Dr. Zubaida Sadik, board-certified pediatrician in Freehold, New Jersey. However, a baby’s bottle needs to be thoroughly cleaned with soap and hot water or run through a dishwasher cycle to remove any bacteria or leftover formula, she says. When preparing a bottle of formula for your child, the water should be at room temperature. Boil tap water for 1 minute and add it to the powdered formula when the water cools to room temperature, recommends Sadik.
