Do You Have to Burp a Baby After Feeding Cereal or Solids?

Although it is not always necessary to burp a baby after feeding solids, it can help reduce gas and bloating, says Dr. Jane Scott, Colorado-based pediatrician and neonatologist. “Don’t take too long or be too aggressive with burping, though, because babies get tired and sometimes spit up if you do,” warns Scott. If you are offering a bottle along with cereal and solids, you will need to burp your baby after each feeding to relieve her of any air she may have swallowed while sucking the bottle.
