When to Seek a Professional for Breastfeeding

Ideally, every mother would receive breastfeeding support within the first week after birth, says Erica Chidi, a California-based lactation consultant. “Preventive support can help rule out long-term issues and give a new mother an extra boost of confidence,” says Chidi, founder of The Mama Circle breastfeeding resource.

Many nursing moms seek out professional support when their baby is not getting enough milk. A nursing mom should definitely seek support from a lactation professional if her baby is battling to latch or is constantly feeding but appears unsatisfied, Chidi states.
