5 Brands For Kids With Kinky and Curly Hair

Tackling this ain't easy.

Black girl hair. Ethic hair. Mixed race hair. It’s a thing. And not just a “Oh, I’ll wash it, toss it up in a ponytail” thing, either. Taking care of and maintaining naturally curly and kinky hair is a chore, y’all. And I can say this because not only do I have kinky hair, but I am raising a girl who has kinky hair. Luckily for her, I’ve spent almost a decade learning how to take care of, style and provide healthy habits for my hair. A gal pal of mine has recently adopted an African-American baby and my girl who described herself as being “such a White girl” is perplexed on how she was going to manage taking care of her 4-year old’s hair. I told her that it starts with good products and these are some of the brands that I recommended to her.

Bee Mine Products

Ideal for any and everyone with hair, Bee Mine’s hair goodies are perfect for little ones because all of their products have nourishing ingredients that are gentle enough for babies on up to adults. The Founder made it her mission to provide those with textured hair a great deal of products that add moisture to our chronically thirsty tresses. Having used these products exclusively on my daughter’s hair, I think she has succeeded!

I recommend the Avocado Cream Conditioner.

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Kids collection

I have been a Shea Moisture lover for years now and I always seem to recommend their hair care products and skin care products to everyone I know. I recently discovered that they have a kids collection! Rejoicing commenced and after picking them up and giving them a whirl, I was absolutely in love with how well these products worked on my daughter’s hair. The Coconut & Hibiscus Extra-Moisturizing Detangler REALLY detangled. This says a lot because those with thick hair know that detangling is a very important and integral process in caring for the hair. Sweet smelling, moisture rich and affordable, Shea Moisture does it again at providing excellent products for both little ones and big ones.

Oyin Handmade

Long live the amazing folks at Oyin Handmade. They have been giving us fantastic skin care and hair care products for over 15 years now. If you truly want to support a small business that takes pride in whipping up deliciously smelling and effective hair care products, you and your curly kid will love Oyin Handmade. Their products are fantastic for thick hair due to the simple ingredients like shea butter, olive oil and coconut oil. The best part? Many of their hair products can be used on the body, as well. Yay for getting your bang for your buck!

I love the Hair Dew.

Cara B Naturals

This line may not be as widely known as some of the others but Cara B Naturals is a certified natural line that was formulated just for the wee ones. I love how the majority of their products are fragrance-free or just lightly fragranced with a just a hint of chamomile. They have a shampoo that also doubles as a body wash and my daughter’s hair glistens after a few sprays of their Moisturizing Hair Mist.

Curls

If you’re dealing with a whole lotta curls, check out the brand...Curls! They carry products for all hair types but they really crank out a ton of products for the guy and girls with beautiful naturally curly hair. If turning frizzy curls into bouncing defined curls is a struggle, they’ve got you covered with custards, milkshakes and jellies.
