When Emma Murray, then 24, was rushed to the hospital in 2013 because she thought she had appendicitis, she was in for a big surprise—she was pregnant and in labor. Her son, Aaron, was born with a condition called holoprosencephaly, which meant that he was missing most of his brain and only had a brain stem. Doctors didn't expect him to live longer than an hour. But they were wrong. Aaron is now 2 years old and just spoke his first word—"mummy." Emma Murray couldn't be happier.
