Today's cribs are much safer than they were a decade ago, Steorts says. So always use a new one. "No passing it down, no garage sales, no putting your baby in the crib you used to sleep in. That's all a big no-no," she says. Make sure the cribs at your child's day care center meet the new standards, as well. And be sure to keep your crib clutter-free, as there is a risk of suffocation.
