Donda West spent years managing her son Kanye's music career, but that wasn't her only career. Before she took over West Brands and the Kanye West Foundation, she spent more than three decades in academia. Donda was a professor of English at Morris Brown College in Atlanta and then Chicago State University, becoming a Fulbright Scholar along the way. At one point, she served as foreign expert to the People's Republic of China. In 2007, Donda released the book "Raising Kanye" and, unfortunately, died after surgery complications later that year.
