The other day I made a comment about how
good George Clooney looked in a tux, and my 15-year-old said something that
broke my heart, “I guess he looks OK. For an old guy.” I should have punished
her, but she’s taller than me and I have a really hard time putting her in a
choke hold these days.
So I did the next best thing: I sat down
with her and my 17-year-old and had them tell me which movie stars that they
thought were hot so that I could say things like, “I guess he’s OK. For an
infant.” Here’s the list of who’s hot in Hollywood right now, according to two
teen girls and some of their friends on Tumblr. Feel free to bust it out the
next time you strike up a conversation with someone in line at Chipotle.
Lerman—Known for his role as Percy Jackson in the Percy Jackson & The Olympians series, he became every teen
girl’s dreamy awkward boyfriend after starring in The Perks of Being A Wallflower. According to my 15-year-old, he’s
the "It" boy now, and way cuter than George Clooney.
Upcoming Film: Fury with Brad Pitt
2. Chloë Moretz—People got their panties in a twist when a 12-year-old Chloë sliced people up
as Hit Girl in the edgy, violent Kick Ass
but she became a favorite antihero with teens. (Adults breathed a little
easier when Roger Ebert singled out her performance while slamming the film.)
She endured a horrific prom night covered in pig’s blood in last year’s Carrie.
Upcoming Film: The
Equalizer with Denzel Washington
3.Zac Efron—He was
hot, then he was not, now he’s hot again! After making his debut in Disney’s High School Musical he got overexposed
and all the fickle teens shunned him like last semester’s skinny jeans, but after
seeing his toned arms on the big screen in the Lucky One they changed their minds. They almost forgave him for
breaking up with Vanessa Hudgens.
Upcoming Film: Neighbors
with Seth Rogan and That Awkward Moment with
Michael B. Jordan
Although word from the inside is “she’s not very nice in person.”
B. Jordan—After appearing on TV in Friday
Night Lights, The Wire and Parenthood,
Michael had his breakout role in 2012’s Chronicle.
He played a popular high school student who looked good, was smart and knew how
to party—what more could a teen ask for? Now he’s super hot after his lead in
the critically acclaimed Fruitvale
Station, and stars alongside hot-again Zac Efron in the upcoming That Awkward Moment.
Upcoming Film: That Awkward Moment, and a
still-under-wraps, much-talked-about role alongside Cate Blanchett and Chiwetel
Ejiofor in Triple Nine.
Fanning—Elle got her start playing younger versions of her sister Dakota
in films like I Am Sam and Taken, but held her own when she starred
in J.J. Abrams’ Super 8. She’s a hit
with the critics, and the teens love her quirky style—she’s a fixture on fashion
blogs and a fave on the red carpet. Although word from the inside is “she’s not
very nice in person.” Hmmmmm?
Upcoming Film: Maleficent with Angelina Jolie
Hudgens—Like her ex, Zac Efron, Vanessa got her start in the High School Musical franchise and then
disappeared for awhile, during which time we surmised she was plotting how to
shed her good-girl image. And boy did she, surfacing in the controversial Spring Breakers doing all sorts of bad
things with James Franco. She followed that with the gritty Machete Kills, and is getting raves from
critics as a homeless teen in the just released Gimme Shelter.
Upcoming Film: Kitchen Sink with Patton Oswalt and Joan Cusack
Lawrence—What can we say except who doesn’t
like Jennifer Lawrence? She became an instant favorite of teens after the first
Hunger Games movie, then they fell in
love with her even more after The Hunger
Games: Catching Fire. Those whose parents let them see an R-rated movie
related to, and sympathized, with her troubled character in Silver Linings Playbook. Now she’s playing grown-up roles in movies
like American Hustle, but teens still
like her for her down-to-earth vibe and diatribes against dieting. The two
remaining Hunger Games movies should escalate
the J-Law love to mythical heights.
Upcoming film that isn’t a Hunger Games movie: X-Men: Days of Future Past with Hugh Jackman and Michael Fassbender
Lautner – According to my girls, teens still
like Taylor and his superhuman abs. (His much more famous Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson has fallen out of favor, though.)
Taylor came close to being shunned completely after his small, uncredited role
in the beyond-awful Grown Ups 2 but
his amazing chest—I mean acting—seems to keep him in the spotlight.
