Harry Connick Jr. Reveals How Being a Dad Affected His Role in 'Dolphin Tale 2'

The kids of Dolphin Tale are growing up—and actor-dad Harry Connick Jr. can relate.

After the success of the 2011 Warner Bros. film, based on the life of an injured dolphin that needs a prosthetic tail to survive, the cast is reuniting again for a second installment, Dolphin Tale 2, hitting theaters in September.

We caught up with the film's stars, including dads Connick and Morgan Freeman, on set at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Clearwater, Fla. Also on hand were child actors Nathan Gamble, Cozi Zuehlsdorff, as well as David Yates, who serves as the aquarium's CEO.

While the cast—and Winter the dolphin—have remained the same, the story and kids have evolved. In addition to a new dolphin being introduced into the mix, Gamble and Zuehlsdorff are now full-fledged teens.

And Connick, who has three daughters (two teens and a tween), says he knows all about that.

"I think it's interesting because [what's happening with my character] almost kind of parallels what's happening in my real life, when your kids grow and you start to realize that they're not as dependent on you as they were for all the right reasons," he says. "They just start to grow up, and they start to think of things that maybe surprise you."

While the film arrives later this year, the preview debuts on iTunes Trailers April 10 at 4:30 p.m. PT.
