After a few months of silence from the couple and rumors in the press, Shakira has finally confirmed she's expecting her second child with Spanish soccer star and partner of four years, Gerard Piqué.
"Yes, I'm pregnant," the Colombian singer said in a new cover story interview for the Mexican edition of Cosmopolitan magazine. Shakira didn't give further details about her pregnancy or a possible due date, but she discussed her career, love life and family in the interview.
Rumors have swirled that Shakira, 37, may be pregnant since her World Cup closing ceremony performance on July 13, where she donned a belly-covering costume and some say they noticed her abdomen was not as svelte as usual.
In April, Shakira told Latina magazine her plans for a second baby were on hold due to a busy work schedule and promoting her self-titled album, which came out in March. However, at the time, she admitted she'd be pregnant again already if it weren't for her music projects, and said she would "love to have eight or nine kids with Gerard—my own fútbol team." Shakira announced in May that she wouldn't be returning as a judge on NBC's hit show, "The Voice," for its seventh season so she could focus on her music career and motherhood.
But we all know that despite plans, other things can happen—and the superstar mom confirmed the happy news via her Twitter account in two languages:
Yes, we are expecting our second baby!! Thank you all for your well wishes!
The happy family attended the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final match in Brazil together in mid-July, where there were lots of smiles, hugs and giggles between Milan, mom and dad. We can't wait to see their family of four at the next World Cup in 2018!
The couple first met while Shakira was promoting the 2010 World Cup anthem "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)," in which Piqué made a cameo appearance. They welcomed their first son, Milan, in January 2013. Her song "La La La (Brazil 2014)" was also the anthem for this summer's World Cup.
