In the 1970s, actress Tippi Hedren, her husband Noel Marshall and their actress daughter Melanie Griffith wanted to make a movie about lions. So they did what any reasonable family would do—they lived with 150 of them.
While none of the animals were harmed in the making of "Roar," 70 people were injured and Melanie herself had her face torn open by a lioness.
"After seven years growing up with the lions, I forgot you have to be careful. You can never be sure you're safe and just a blow can pop your head like a ping pong ball," Griffith tells the Guardian.
