When Katie Couric appeared to take a hard fall down a staircase at "The Late Late Show With James Corden" on Wednesday, Corden jumped up from his seat and ran to make sure the journalist and mom of two was all right.
While Corden bent over a crumpled woman, a voice from the top of the staircase said, "James, April Fools'!"
Yes, Couric pulled an epic prank on the new host and later thanked stunt double Heidi for taking the fall, which probably caused Corden to have a minor heart attack.
"I can't breathe," Corden said, after carrying Couric up to the stage to sit alongside guests Emmy Rossum and Jeremy Piven.
"That was like our worst nightmare," he continued. "That is so funny. That is an amazing prank."
"By the way, James—your reaction was priceless," Piven quipped.
"We've been talking about these stairs," Corden explained. "I was like, 'Oh my God, Katie Couric just died."
