Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to his uber-popular social media site to make a huge announcement this morning.
He and his wife, Priscilla Chan, are expecting a baby girl!
"We've already been so fortunate for the opportunity to touch people's lives around the world — Cilla as a doctor and educator, and me through this community and philanthropy. Now we'll focus on making the world a better place for our child and the next generation," Zuckerberg writes on his Facebook page.
And while the couple look more than excited in the post, in which Chan gently holds her small bulge of a belly, Zuckerberg reveals that getting to where they are today wasn't exactly easy.
"We've been trying to have a child for a couple of years and have had three miscarriages along the way," he admits.
"You feel so hopeful when you learn you're going to have a child," he continues. "You start imagining who they'll become and dreaming of hopes for their future. You start making plans, and then they're gone. It's a lonely experience."
Zuckerberg writes that he wanted to share this experience with his community because he and his wife "realized how frequently this happened" and wanted to give "more people the same hope we felt."
He writes that he wanted to get away from the perceived shame of the experience that so many people feel.
"Most people don't discuss miscarriages because you worry your problems will distance you or reflect upon you — as if you're defective or did something to cause this. So you struggle on your own," he writes.
As far as Chan goes, both she and their child are healthy, he writes. And he'll continue to share their experience and birth with the community.
And while their dog Beast might not know what's on the horizon, Zuckerberg already shares a particular bond with his child, who will no doubt be a social-media genius.
After all, he writes, "[i]n our ultrasound, she even gave me a thumbs-up 'like' with her hand, so I'm already convinced she takes after me."
