The "Little House on the Prairie" star got her start in Hollywood at a young age playing Laura Ingalls Wilder, aka "Half Pint," on the hit '70s-'80s show. Now, Melissa Gilbert is running for Congress as a Democrat.
Gilbert first dipped her toe into the water of politics as the president of the Screen Actors Guild, the union which represents actors. She later moved to Michigan in 2014 after marrying her third husband, actor Timothy Busfield. In August of 2015, Gilbert announced her candidacy for Congress representing the state of Michigan.
In the statement announcing her candidacy, Gilbert said, "I'm running for Congress to make life a little easier for all the families who feel they have fallen through the cracks in today's economy. I believe building a new economy is a team effort, and we need to bring fresh voices to the table to get the job done."
