Gloria Estefan's 21-year-old daughter Emily is following in her mom's footsteps and joining the music business. The youngest member of the Estefan family is already an accomplished drummer and singer who also plays the piano and guitar. Now she's releasing an album, and her first single came out recently with a title you might not expect.
Emily Estefan's new tune, entitled "F#uck to Be," is catchy and her voice is vaguely reminiscent of Amy Winehouse. The horns in the video even remind us of Miami Sound Machine's brass. But don't tell the 21-year-old who to be, if you know what's good for you.
"I told her just be yourself, be who you need to be," Gloria Estefan said in an interview with ET.
She also shared that Emily didn't curse when she was growing up, but she did make up her own curse words instead.
"I'd say 'once you're 18, then you can say whatever you want, but that doesn't look nice or cute in the voice of a child,'" said Gloria. "Now it's gone to hell in a handbasket," she said with a laugh in the interview.
Just like in her mom's early days as a performer, Emily rocks curly hair and thick eyebrows. But that's where the similarities might end, Emily suggests.
"It's really hard. How am I supposed to top the Medal of Freedom, and all that stuff? I'm not going to follow that path. I'll just admire it and go the other way," Emily told ET.
Emily was born December 5, 1994—four years after her parents and brother were involved in a tour bus accident in which Gloria Estefan suffered a broken back. She was told she might never be able to have more children, but the couple really wanted a daughter. After undergoing medical procedures, Gloria was finally able to conceive and calls Emily her "miracle baby."
Emily's older brother Nayib and his wife welcomed baby boy Sasha Argento Estefan in June 2012, making Gloria Estefan one of the coolest grandmas ever. But don't think that just because she's a grandma that she's not still a smashing success or ready to hang up her shoes just yet — Emily's famous parents are currently enjoying a run on Broadway with the new hit show "On Your Feet!" about their lives.
