PBS Kids character Ruff Ruffman, the animated dog from the kids' TV show "Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman," is encouraging kids to speak up when it comes to parents and distracted driving.
In a public service announcement launched in December by PBS Boston's WGBH and the Connecticut Department of Transportation that targets families all over the country, Ruff shows kids and their parents how easy it is to get into an accident while texting and driving.
The campaign seeks to tap into "nag power," that is, kids' persistent ability to influence their parents' decisions. The Ruff Ruffman website offers games, quizzes, a guide for parents and letters from children who have been affected by their own families' distracted driving.
Parents can even take a "Safe Driving Pledge."
