Jessica Seinfeld could have slipped under the radar. The mom of three (Sacha, 15; Julian, 13; Shepherd, 10) and wife of Jerry instead threw herself head first into a start up that recently earned her a spot on Fortune magazine's Insiders List. "I started with a simple realization: After the birth of my first child, I had more baby gear than I needed, and disadvantaged new mothers had nowhere near enough. Why not find a way to get the goods into their hands?"
Seinfeld founded GOOD+ Foundation (previously called Baby Buggy) in 2001. Since then the charity has recycled nearly 20 million items—new and gently used—to families in need. What's behind the new name? According to Seinfeld, it "recognizes that it is the GOODs, PLUS the education and services our partners provide, that move families out of poverty."
"We have tried to find new ways of helping children and families outgrow poverty. I am incredibly proud of our success and humbled by the support from our donors, volunteers and partners," said Seinfeld. "The foundation's tagline—'Partnerships for Stronger Families'—signals our approach: teaming up with leading life-changing programs that use our donated goods to help motivate parents to play a more active role in their own progress."
