Lucy Liu's First Mother's Day
When it came to starting a family, "Elementary" actress Lucy Liu might have taken the road less traveled but she wouldn't have it any other way.
Choosing gestational surrogacy, she tells mom.me, "seemed like the best way for me to go about having a family, so that's what I decided to do."
And in August of last year, her son Rockwell Lloyd Liu was born.
"I'm a mom. I'm a single mom, and I love him, and I will always love him," says Liu, 47, who partnered with Tylenol on the company's inclusive #HowWeFamily campaign. "We didn't create a traditional family that most people would say is 'the social norm,' but he never feels that he's without anything he needs."
Liu will celebrate her first Mother's Day on Sunday, and she admits that the idea took her by surprise.
"You're so busy mothering that you actually forget," she says. "For me, it will be a day to pause and just recognize how far along everything has come for me and how this choice that I made for myself has given me and brought me so many wonderful opportunities, and opened up my world in such a way that I would have never imagined."
Liu also shared with mom.me what she wishes she had more of as a parent, her idea of misery and what music she could do without for awhile. (Sorry, Justin.)
