Mom and former college swimmer Amanda Mercer spent two years training with five friends to swim a two-way relay crossing of the English Channel to raise awareness for Lou Gehrig's disease. Just four months shy of the big swim, the 44-year-old was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Despite surgery and chemotherapy, Mercer continued to train. Ten days after her last round of chemo, Mercer and crew finished the feat in 18 hours and 55 minutes, breaking the world record by four minutes.
