Australian hard rock band AC/DC is famously insular. Brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, both guitar players, founded the band in 1973. They come from a Scottish family of seven boys and one girl. Another sibling, George, is known as the band's "sixth member." In addition to producing for the band, George has stepped in as a bassist, drummer, backup singer, composer and business manager.
The Recording Industry Association of America reports that AC/DC has sold 72 million units in the United States, making them the fifth-best-selling band in the country's history.
