Hilaria Baldwin isn't getting much sleep these days. That might be because she has 1-month-old daughter Carmen with husband Alec Baldwin. And while her newborn daughter recently had a bout of the hiccups, Hilaria says that overall she's a relaxed baby.
As for catching much-needed rest? "It depends on the night," she concedes. "I'm waking up with her every three hours."
But that doesn't seem to be slowing her down.
The yoga instructor and Extra lifestyle correspondent will debut her first workout DVD, @ Home with Hilaria Baldwin: Fit Mommy-to-be Prenatal Yoga, on Oct. 1. Also the co-founder of Yoga Vida in Manhattan, she wanted moms-to-be to get their bodies moving during pregnancy. Hilaria also wanted to show that partners could join in the downward-dog fun, too—cue bonus material with hubs, Alec.
We talked to Hilaria about her new DVD, how she's going to introduce Latin culture to her daughter and what Alec is really like as a dad.
1. Will she do Mommy and Me yoga with baby Carmen?
Oh, absolutely. We’ve already practiced our little stretches. During tummy time, she can go up into "little cobra." She’s a strong girl; she lifts her head up. She had a strong head right from the beginning, in the hospital. Maybe it’s all the yoga that I did.
2. How will she incorporate Latin culture into Carmen's life?
I want her to be bilingual. My parents are here, visiting from Spain, so we speak to her in Spanish. They bought her a bunch of books like Are You My Mother. In Spanish, it’s Eres Tu Mi Mama? We read that to her.
Cielito Lindo, which means "little beautiful sky"; A La Nanita Nana (Let's Sing a Little Lullaby); and she really likes Ave Maria. … I walked down the aisle to Ave Maria.
4. What are her favorite baby bottles?
I’m exclusively breast-feeding in terms of what she’s getting. She’s not getting any formula, but I pump. I’ve gone back to work already, and that means I’ll leave her for two hours at a time. The baby bottles that we really like are the Tommee Tippee bottles. That was something one of my friends used. And that’s the one she likes so far. Avents are also really great.
5. Alec Baldwin is what kind of dad?
He’s a good dad, a very good dad. I don’t think you ever know how they’re going to be until you experience it. Everybody says, “Oh yeah, sure. I’m going to be with you, and I’m going to change diapers and do all these things,” and you always worry that at 2 a.m. you’re going to be alone with your child and your husband’s going to be snoring. But no, [Alec's] really great. He wakes up with me every single time that she wakes up. He’s sweet.
