In his latest film, Delivery Man, Vince Vaughn plays a man who's fathered 533 kids—via sperm donation. In real life, Vaughn's dad to a much more manageable two—daughter Locklyn, who turns 3 in December, and 3-month-old son Vernon. (Yes, the VV initials live on!)
While the challenges of raising two are different from, say, getting to know hundreds, as Vaughn's character does in the film, there are still some things that might surprise anyone when it comes to parenthood.
Vaughn and his co-star Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother), who's also mom to 4-year-old daughter Shaelyn, chatted about their lives as parents at the red carpet premiere of Delivery Man, opening November 22.
What surprised Vaughn most about fatherhood?
"I think it's those things you hear are true. The ability to love and be excited about it is just tremendous," he says.
"What's fun about the film, I think, is it kind of deals with [parenthood] in a way that's not polite, that you don't expect. You know, a lot of hopes and fears that you have as a parent," Vaughn continued.
For Smulders, her biggest surprise is the juggle itself.
"Just the fact that I'm still here and I can still do it all," she said. "Trying to, at least."
And how does she do it all?
"I don't know," she admitted. "I ask that question every day."
