KitKat Brownies

Quick box brownies don’t have to be dull, dry and boring. Next time you have a few chocolate wafer bars lying around, make a decadent treat for dessert! These chocolatey brownies with hidden wafer bars will become a welcome surprise to bake sale patrons, office potluck attendees or birthday party guests.

RECIPE: KitKat Brownies

Serves 6

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: Varies; follow box instructions.


  • 1 box (1 lb. 2.4 oz) store-bought brownie mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and egg indicated on brownie box
  • 4 fun-size KitKat bars, broken up to make 8 wafer bars


  1. Preheat oven to 350 °F (325° F for dark nonstick pan).
  2. Line a 9x13-baking dish with foil so foil extends about 2 inches over sides of dish. Spray foil with cooking spray.
  3. Prepare brownies according to box instructions.
  4. Pour half of the brownie mix in prepared baking dish. Arrange KitKat bars evenly on batter then pour the remaining batter over the KitKat bars. Bake for the amount of time directed on box. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
  5. Cut brownies to desired size and enjoy.
