McDonald's tried to class up its menu with the addition of the Arch Deluxe burger in the late '90s. Targeted at parents as the "adult choice," the burger was a disaster for McDonald's. The Arch Deluxe had a special sauce to supposedly appeal to adult tastes and was sold at a higher price than the standard McDonald's food. However, customers weren't buying it. The multimillion dollar campaign was a huge flop for the fast food chain.
