The Gym Freak Smoothie Recipe

Sara Cadji, author of "Pure Juice: Fresh and Easy Recipes," writes, "By far one of the most popular smoothies at Roots & Bulbs, the Gym Freak does exactly what it says: it gives you energy pre- or post-work out. The chocolate hazelnut butter will give you the right amount of fats (remember, some fats are good). The hemp protein powder will give you all of your 20 amino acids and the maca will boost your endurance levels while you are working out!"

RECIPE: The Gym Freak

Yields: 2 (generous 1 cup each)


  • 1 cup vanilla almond milk
  • 1 banana, peeled
  • ½ teaspoon peanut butter
  • ½ teaspoon chocolate hazelnut butter
  • 1 teaspoon hemp protein powder
  • 1 teaspoon maca powder
  • 1 teaspoon cacao nibs
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds


1. Blend all your ingredients together. Serve immediately.
