Friday Cocktail: Pom Pom

This is a pomegranate martini with bonus points for being lighter, fresher and healthier. Why? Because it's made with real pomegranate juice versus a flavored brandy, liqueur, flavored syrup or other artificial flavor. Bars won't always carry the fresh stuff because of the shelf life of truly potent, healthy, nutritionally packed pomegranate juice, which can cut down on the profit margins. So one point for SkinnyTinis—because you're making these from home! You can save some money, add some nutrition to your 'tini and still have "All the Fun for Half the Calories!"

Vodka Gimlet

Raspberry Mojito

Hibiscus Rum Cooler

  • 2 ounces citrus vodka
  • 1 1/2 ounces diet ginger ale
  • 1 ounce pomegranate juice
  • 1/2 ounce light orange juice

  1. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake for 10 to 15 seconds.
  2. Strain into a 5-ounce martini glass. Be careful as you shake any SkinnyTini containing a carbonated mixer, as it can have a powerful and slightly messy effect on your kitchen. To ease the situation, wrap the shaker in a towel and shake gently.

Skinny Tidbit: Pomegranate juice has been getting a lot of press the last few years. Why? Because it deserves it! The juice is not just delicious, but it's also packed with vitamin C and potassium, low in calories and touted as a dense source of antioxidants. Serious research is being done, and results are proving that 8 ounces a day for about three months can improve heart health, fight cancer and reduce inflammation. Cheers to that!
