Spring might be mating season in the animal kingdom, but it's splitting season for us humans. According to a recent Facebook study, couples tend to call it quits around Valentine's Day, Spring Break and April Fools' Day—meaning that right about now many people are either in the process of parting ways or are nursing wounds from a recent breakup.
While your go-to heartbreak remedy might involve a pint of Ben & Jerry's and Adele, you may find that a coping mechanism tailored for your astrological qualities (Cardinal, Fixed or Mutable) will help you move on even faster. After all, the quality of a person's sign can reveal a lot about his or her attitude toward life.
Because Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) tend to take the lead in their relationships, they may feel an intense loss of control post-breakup, according to Elizabeth Ball, astrologer, relationship expert and author of It's in the Stars. To get revenge, they might throw out their partners' belongings or try to be the first to get a new, better-looking partner, she says. Instead, Ball advises Cardinal signs to hurl their energy into a new project. Whether exercising (Aries), working on home DIY projects (Cancer), being more social (Libra) or expanding their career horizons (Capricorn), they'll benefit from a healthy dose of "me time."
Typically set in their ways, Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) are apt to fixate on their exes (think: checking Facebook nonstop). "But, when they do let go, they're finished for good," Ball says. With the exception of Aquarius, who tends not to be emotionally high-strung, Fixed signs don't usually remain friends with their exes. They need time to get over their last loves and won't likely rush into new relationships. In order to transition from single to ready-to-mingle, Fixed signs should try to create a new routine—one that has nothing to do with their ex, Ball says. Instead of hitting up the cafe they used to frequent with their ex, they should try to find different spots. Or they could pick up a hobby that allows them to meet new people.
Anxiety and impulsive behavior tend to plague Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) post-breakup, making them prone to bad judgment. These signs may be tempted to cut off all their hair (yikes!), embark on a series of flings or air their grievances on social media, according to Ball. Despite their acute pain, Mutable signs have the potential to bounce back quicker than others. The key for them is taking time to reflect by journaling or blogging about their feelings. "Realizing the lessons they gained from the relationship can help them feel like they've grown as a person," Ball explains.
