Dad Arrested After Picking up Kids on Foot, Instead of by Car

Every day at South Cumberland Elementary School in Tennessee, parent pick-up time is kind of a nightmare. Adding to the bus congestion, a mile-long line of parents wait inside their cars, in a slow-moving quest just to pick up their kids. Considering most families don't live far from the school, pick-up time can be a major pain in the butt.

And that's exactly what drove dad Jim Howe to buck the system one day last week and walk to school to pick his kid up, rather than drive. After all, he lives only a few minutes away—sounds like an easy solution, right?

Apparently not so for school Resource Officer Avery Aytes, who was none too pleased with that tactic, because it just didn't comply with the rules. The two then got into a tense spat, ending with Aytes arresting Howe right there in the school office.

Now, this might sound like one big exaggerated story that couldn't possibly be true ... except for the fact that Howe's girlfriend just so happened to film the whole thing on her phone as it went down.

At first, Aytes can be heard merely threatening the arrest: "I'm going to call some help down here and we're going to take you up to the jail right now. I'm not putting up with this today."

But by the video's end, Howe is slapped with handcuffs.

Watch for yourself:

Unbelievably, ABC News affiliate WATE tried to contact local Sheriff Butch Burgess about all this, but he seemed to think the case was pretty much cut and dry, and sided with Aytes. What's more, he even said he didn't need to see the video "because it won't tell the whole story." According to Burgess, "Aytes was just doing his job."
