In addition to an intimate hold, the high leaps and turns required the man to place one hand on the woman’s hip and the other below her bosom. To retain her modesty, and ensure she didn’t show too much leg, the woman used her left hand to hold her dress down. Still, many prude parents found La Volta revolting.
