When Stephan Perez lost his grandmother, the Columbia University student could not focus on his studies. His friend slipped him the ADHD drug Adderall and he was hooked, able to study for eight hours straight. He asked his friend how to get more. “He said, "Go to Health Services. ... They give it out like it's candy," Perez recalls, according to an NBC Rock Center investigation last month. He didn’t count on the devastating, and potentially dangerous side effects, though. He had horrible mood swings, and started selling the drug to students—and one undercover cop. His Ivy League dream crumbled, and he pled guilty to selling drugs. A word of caution: If you have ADHD medication at home, beware of where it’s going. More and more teens are getting ahold of the buzz drug.
