The Truth About Kids and Guns

Yet another senseless school shooting made the news in Nevada on Monday, where a student allegedly shot and killed a math teacher at Sparks Middle School and then turned the gun on himself. Two other students were wounded.

As parents living in the United States, it's far too often that we ask ourselves: How many students, teachers, friends and loved ones have to fall victim to gun violence before something is done about it? When you look at the statistics, you hope that the answer is now.

The statistics, below, are pulled from the Protect Children, Not Guns reports from 2012 and 2013. As more details continue to emerge surrounding the Nevada shooting, the sad truth is that we are becoming less and less surprised when these tragic events occur. The numbers in the graphics below tell a frightening story about the current state of gun violence in the U.S., and one that is not improving. Is anybody out there listening?

Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by gun violence ... yesterday, today and tomorrow.
