Different Hair Braid Styles

Fishtail Side Braid

For something out of the ordinary, try a summer-inspired fishtail braid any time of the year with style. Pull your hair into a low ponytail just behind one of your ears, and then split the pony in two. Take a small piece of hair from the underside of the left section, and wrap it over the top to join the right section. Do the same with the right section. Alternate sides until you’ve braided down the length of the pony. Fix in place with a hair elastic, then mist with hairspray. Pull out some pieces from the front of your hair for an undone, edgy look.

Poufy Braid

Pump up the volume by running a volumizing mousse through wet hair and then blowing dry upside down to create mega volume. Create extra lift at your roots with a round brush, pointing the blow dryer upwards. Once your hair’s dry, tease the top of your hair until it’s big and bumpy on top. Pull hair into a loose ponytail and secure with an elastic hair band to keep it in place. Braid the length of the ponytail, then secure it at the ends with another hair elastic. Blast with hairspray and head out that door to show off your new, sexy style.

Braided Bun

A braid gives an unexpected twist to a cute bun. To create your braided bun, pull hair back into a ponytail, and secure with an elastic. Take two-thirds of the ponytail and wrap it around the base of the pony, securing with bobby pins. Braid the remaining one-third, then wrap it around the outside of the bun to frame it. Secure in place with bobby pins. Pull out a few loose strands from the front of your hair, and you’re ready to wow with your new, low-key braided bun.

Braided Updo

Create an updo worthy of any special occasion. Start by curling your hair with a curling iron, or sleep with two or three buns in your hair to make waves. Next, French braid your hairline, or make a traditional braid if French braiding isn’t your thing. When you reach your ear, secure with a small hair elastic, then braid the other side of your hairline. Pull the rest of your hair into a low ponytail and tie with a hair elastic. Grab a small section of ponytail, coat with a small amount of wax, then twist it around your finger and secure to your head with a bobby pin. Do this with the rest of your ponytail until the hair elastic is hidden. Tuck the hairline braids into the ‘do, and pin to secure.
