Shatter effects nails are a hot way to achieve a cool nail design without having to do any of the work. To get the look, you'll need two polishes -- one base color and one special shatter effects polish to paint over your base coat. You can find shatter effects polish at most beauty supply stores. Paint on your base coat and let it dry. Top your nails off with one layer of shatter effects polish. When the polish cools, it will crack, making a shattered-glass design over your base color.
You'll need two polishes for this look, too. The idea is to create a half moon, arch-like shape on the cuticle of your nail, making that your accent shade. Start by painting your entire nail your accent shade. You'll then paint over the whole nail, leaving a moon-shaped section over the cuticle exposed. This can be a tough look to pull off yourself, so to pull off the perfect DIY, snag a pack of paper hole reinforcements -- the white stickers you put over the holes in notebook paper to keep it from ripping. After you paint and dry your base coat, stick the reinforcements on your nails so they cover a half arch of the nail. Paint your second coat over them. Then remove the reinforcements.
Nail Art Stickers
If you want a more complicated design, don't try to do it yourself. Just buy a set of nail art stickers. OP! and Sally Hansen both have nail art stickers that give you many options. Simply rub the sticker with your hands for 10 to 15 seconds, peel it off, lay it over your nail, and then file it down to remove the excess.
French Mani Variation
Instead of a run-of-the-mill French manicure, add some color. Paint your entire nail a shade of polish, and accent your tips with a complementary color. Keep it neutral with black and white or black and gray, or make it more colorful. Either way, it's sure to be a bold, statement-making look.
