How to Naturally Increase Hair Growth

Step 1

Keep your diet packed with healthy foods. Sure, you can splurge on the occasional cheeseburger or ice cream cone, but try to limit your intake of fatty foods and sweets. Foods with lots of protein, B vitamins, iron, vitamin E, essential fatty acids and sulfur will help to promote hair growth. So pig out on dark green leafy veggies, nuts, fish, whole grain cereals, eggs, beans, yogurt and nuts, but watch it with caffeine, carbonated drinks, fats and sugars.

Step 2

Head to the salon every two to three months to get your ends trimmed. It may seem like you're defeating the purpose here, since you want your hair to grow, but getting rid of those dry, split ends will keep your hair healthy and let it grow faster.

Step 3

Get moving. Regular exercise will increase blood flow to your scalp, which helps the hair to grow faster. Plus, your whole body will be healthier and feel great. Get a minimum of seven hours of sleep each night. Your hair grows while you’re sleeping. If you aren’t getting enough shut-eye, your hair won’t have the time to grow.

Step 4

Cut back on the number of times you shampoo your hair each week. You don’t need to wash your hair every day. Doing so strips it of the natural oils that promote healthy hair. Instead, only wash your locks every other day at the most. Don ‘t use hot water, because it dries out your hair and scalp.

Step 5

Give your scalp a rub down at least once a week. This will stimulate the hair follicles and help your hair to grow. Massage a dime-sized amount of warm castor or coconut oil into your hair and scalp using the pads of your fingers. Rub your fingers in a circular motion over your scalp for two or three minutes. Leave the oil in overnight, if you can, or you can wash it out right then.

Step 6

Spruce up your regular shampoo by adding 1 cup of black tea and ½ cup of rosemary with half the bottle of shampoo. This fragrant addition to your shampoo will help to open up the pores in your scalp and increase circulation to promote hair growth.

Step 7

Limit how often you use heated styling products. Yes, you want those perfect curls for your big date night out -- or you want your hair silky-straight for a meeting at work -- but using these tools damages and dries out your hair, preventing it from growing.

Step 8

Grab an egg and some olive oil. Make your own weekly hair mask. Whip up an egg yolk and 3 tbsp. of olive oil. Massage it into your scalp, leave it on for 15 minutes, then shampoo your hair as usual.
