Homemade Cleaner for Rusty Utensils

Step 1

Slice a potato in half with a knife and dip the cut half into either salt or baking soda. Rub it over the rusty area on any utensil. Scrub the rust until it has been removed, then rinse the utensil thoroughly. Repeat as needed.

Step 2

Fill a small bowl with white vinegar and immerse the utensils in the vinegar. Let them soak for approximately two days. If they are large items, wrap the rusty area in paper towels, soak the towels in vinegar, then wrap the towels with plastic wrap. After two days, remove the items and scrub the rusty areas with a stiff-bristled brush. Rinse the utensils with water.

Step 3

Sprinkle some salt on rusty utensil areas. Dribble some lime juice onto the salt and allow it to sit for two or three hours. Use the lime rind to scrub off the rust. Rinse the utensils with water.
