How to Take Care of a Heated Mattress Pad

Washing a Heated Mattress Pad

Step 1

Disconnect the power cord and detach the control.

Step 2

Pre-soak the mattress pad for 15 minutes in mild soap and lukewarm water. You can do this right in your washing machine.

Step 3

Run the delicate cycle of your machine for two minutes.

Step 4

Use the rinse cycle on your washing machine to rinse the pad with lukewarm water. Allow it to go through the normal spin cycle.

Step 5

Remove the pad after the spin cycle has completed. Stretch it back to the original size with your hands.

Step 6

Hand wash the mattress pad, if you prefer, by first soaking in mild soap and water for 15 minutes, then gently squeeze it several times. This will run the soap through the pad. Rinse it with lukewarm water. Wring it out and gently stretch it back to its original size.

Drying a Heated Mattress Pad

Step 1

Pre-heat the dryer by running it on the lowest temperature setting for two minutes.

Step 2

Tumble dry the pad for 10 minutes on the low temperature setting. Remove it and stretch it again.

Step 3

Hang it over a clothesline or shower rod to finish drying. Do not use clothespins to secure it.

Step 4

Allow it to dry completely before putting it back on the bed and turning it on. Never turn on a damp mattress pad.
