This Boy's Before-and-After Cancer Photo Will Leave You Stunned

It's a beautiful and startling image: On the right, half of a young boy's face is shown, smiling back through bright blue eyes. Happy and tan, he looks ready for summer. On the left, another boy smiles back. He is pale, and clearly weaker, and has lost all his hair. But he still shows that same look of hope.
The startling part, of course, is when you realize that both sides of this photograph show the same boy, at different ages. Noah, the 4-year-old the cancer patient on the left; and Noah, the 7-year-old cancer survivor on the right.
His before-and-after photo is part of a new campaign launched by the Children's Cancer Center at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Aptly named "My Life Is Proof," the campaign aims to highlight amazing stories of hope and survival — something little Noah knows a lot about.
Noah was first diagnosed at age 4 with AML, a rare and aggressive form of leukemia. Though doctors first gave him a 50/50 chance of surviving, he showed amazing spirit throughout rounds of chemo, a bone marrow transplant and months of hospitalization. Today, the hospital writes on its website that Noah is "living cancer-free and dreaming big."
