How to Store Corn for Popcorn

Step 1

Shell the kernels from the corn cobs after you dry them. You can remove the kernels from the cob with a popcorn sheller, or roll them off the cob by pushing them off with your thumb.

Step 2

Place the corn kernels in an airtight container. Fill containers only three-quarters of the way full so that they are not packed too tightly.

Step 3

Store the container at room temperature. You can store the container in the refrigerator as well, but this will dry the kernels out.
