This is my 5-year-old. He likes cake. He also likes to get into our bed in the middle of the night and lay sideways kicking until we're wide awake.
Sure we tried getting to the bottom of his anxiety (fears include the dark, monsters) and come up with soothing solutions. We tried to employ his older sister to take him in at 4 a.m. (This one did not work, I'm afraid. 8-year-olds don't like 5-year-old little brothers in their beds either.) In complete desperation I promised this kid cake (gluten-free, since I'm a celiac) in exchange for a restful night. Guess who didn't come in our bed for 5 nights?
