Can I Get a Spray Tan While Pregnant?

Although spray tans are generally considered a safe alternative to basking in the sun, they should be avoided during pregnancy, states Dr. Shannon Clark, associate professor of maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. “The chemicals contained in the different spray tans vary to such a great degree, and there is no research on their use in pregnancy. Therefore, I would recommend avoiding spray tans altogether,” she advises. Moreover, pregnancy hormones can cause a surprising reaction to spray tanning chemicals, leading to blotches or streaks instead of the all-over glow you were expecting.
