Summer Bucket List: Amie O'Shaunghnessy

My favorite movie is "The English Patient." After seeing the dune scene in that movie, I wanted to experience giant sand dunes first hand. Getting to the Merzouga Dunes takes significant planning, as you have to cross the Atlas Mountains. The drive is extensive through remote parts of the country. To break it up in a way that would be family-friendly for my then 8-year-old took significant work. We engaged the tour operator Kensington Tours, a tour operator who is an expert in traveling through Morocco with kids, for help crafting this trip of a lifetime. They figured out a way for us to make this exotic journey to a remote part of the country kid-friendly and fun for all. We camped overnight in the desert under the brightest stars you have ever seen. We hiked to the top of a sand dune at dawn and watched the sun rise over the desert — it was magic. The best part? Travel to exotic places only inspires more travel to other exotic places. You realize that this kind of travel is doable as a family and creates experiences that are unforgettable for all. It's worth it!
