Soak your cracked heels each night before bed in a mixture of warm water and salt. Pour about 2 qts. of warm water into a basin large enough to submerge both feet and add 1 tsp. salt. Soak your heels in the mixture for at least 15 minutes. The warm water and salt help soften dead skin.
Rub your heels gently with a pumice stone once every other day, just after soaking your feet in warm, salted water. Pumice stones smooth calluses and remove dry skin on your heels quickly and safely.
Apply a thick layer of oil-based moisturizing cream to your cracked heels each night after soaking your feet and using the pumice stone. Use a moisturizer formulated for dry, cracked skin; foot lotion; or petroleum jelly for the best results.
Put on moisture barrier socks after applying moisturizing cream to your heels. These socks help trap in the moisture. Leave the socks on overnight, remove them in the morning, rinse your heels with cool water, and pat dry before putting on your socks and shoes.
