Home Remedy for Dry Hair With Eggs, Olive Oil & Vinegar

It is the nastiest of the bunch, but it works wonders. Eggs are a low fat, protein rich food that can do wonders for your skin and hair. Many store-bought conditioners claim to work as protein treatments, but you can get straight to the source by using eggs. They also contain vitamin B-12 and are high in sulfur, which can promote a moist, healthy scalp. All you have to do is separate the yolk from two eggs, then beat the yolks in a mixing bowl before slathering them into your hair. Allow the mixture to sit for about 15 minutes before rinsing with cool water. If you want to get fancy, the author of "Natural Beauty At Home," Janice Cox, suggests simply beating an egg yolk into a tablespoon of your normal shampoo.

Olive Oil

Olive oil locks moisture in naturally, so it makes plenty of sense to use it in your hair. It is full of antioxidants and vitamins to repair and nourish dry, damaged hair. It is recommended to use the extra virgin variety because it doesn’t contain any foreign additives. There is nothing to it; simply massage the olive oil directly into your hair all the way to the roots. Allow it so sit for about 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water.

It may not be as messy as some remedies, but it is by far the smelliest. The use of vinegar in your hair naturally treats the scalp to a boost of acid neutralizing goodness. Often the cause of dry, damaged hair is an unhealthy scalp. You can restore the pH balance of your scalp by applying vinegar directly to your hair. It can irritate the eyes, so be sure to use a rag or towel, and tilt your head back while smearing it in. Rinse thoroughly after about 10 minutes of soaking.

Combination Treatment

Even though they work wonders when used separately, it is possible to reap the benefits of eggs, olive oil and vinegar by combining them in different ways. One helpful conditioner is created by combining the yolk of two eggs with about 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Likewise, you can mix vinegar and olive oil together to take advantage of the natural moisturizing properties of both at once.
