How to Repair Color-Damaged Hair

Step 1

Wash your hair with a shampoo formulated for color-treated hair. When you wash your hair, always finish with a cold water blast to close off the hair's cuticles. When cuticles are closed, they lay low and add shimmer to your strands.

Step 2

Condition, condition, condition. Restore strength and integrity to your locks by using an ultra-nourishing conditioner daily and a deep conditioning hydrating mask weekly. You can also apply a leave-in conditioner for an extra boost of moisture.

Step 3

Don't overbrush your color-treated hair. Brushing can pull or break hair if it is damaged by color processing. Use soft boar's hair bristles on your hair.

Step 4

Minimize heat styling on color-damaged hair. Reduce blow-drying times by letting hair air dry until 90 percent dry. Use a lower setting of heat. Skip or cut back on curling irons and flat irons. On occasions you must style with heat, use a heat-protectant spray before you fire up your rod or iron.
